Mainichi-shinbun, one of the national newspaper in Japan, said its reporter secretly recorded a conversation with a representative, and the content was posted on a blog by a third person.
Brief translation of the Japanese news site.

Makoto Odaira, 41, a social division reporter at Mainichi Shinbun, interviewed Rep. Itokawa of the house of representatives about his being threatened. Odaira recorded this conversation without Itokawa's approval and gave the recorded device to another story contributer a month after the interview. The contributer then gave the recorder to another media-related person and the person posted the minute on a blog.
I feel ashamed. How great not having a J-school in Japan!! :p
BTW, in Japan, there're several national (i mean, nationwide) newspapers. Asahi, Mainichi, Nikkei, Sankei, Yomiuri, and so on.
It's my personal guess how they correspond to American ones:
NYT=Asahi
WSJ=Nikkei
WP=Sankei
else: don't know....
